Housing INITIATIVE
In Her Shoes Inc believes that economic stability starts with a stable, livable shelter. We support stability and improved quality of life through our transitional housing program and housing repair and rehabilitation program.
Since 2018, IHS has provided housing to over 70 homeless women, children, unaccompanied youth, veterans, the elderly, and disabled individuals. The program provides free or reduced housing to eligible participants based on availability. Our transitional housing program partners with Douglas County Courts, Wellstar Hospital Network, the Veterans Administration, and local churches and nonprofits to provide housing for homeless individuals in Douglas and Carroll counties.
IHS also administers a housing rehabilitation project to low-income households in Georgia and in Mississippi with funding through the USDA’s Housing Preservation Program. In 2018, IHS repaired 4 homes in Georgia and 14 homes of low-income property owners in Tallahatchie County. We are projecting to assist another 10 homeowners in Tallahatchie in spring 2024.
